CoDiet’s ‘Supermarket Sweep’ Debuts at the Great Exhibition Road Festival
On the 7-8th June, the CoDiet project exhibited Supermarket Sweep: The CoDiet Escape Room at the Great Exhibition Road Festival (GERF).
GERF is a free, annual two-day celebration of science and the arts, bringing together Imperial College London and renowned institutions such as the Science Museum, Natural History Museum, V&A and the Royal Albert Hall. The festival features hands-on workshops, captivating talks, live performances and immersive installations for audiences of all ages.
Designed as CoDiet’s flagship public engagement activity, Supermarket Sweep introduces the project’s core themes of diet, health, and technology through a fun and fast-paced escape room experience. Set in the “Supermarket of the Future”, participants take on the role of robots on their induction, racing to solve puzzles, collect the right groceries and check out before time runs out. Along the way, they discover how innovations in AI and personalised nutrition are transforming our understanding of the relationship between diet and disease.
Over the weekend, the CoDiet team ran eight fully booked sessions, welcoming 83 enthusiastic players, all of whom successfully escaped. The fastest team completed the challenge in just 22 minutes and 18 seconds.
Visitors who may have missed out on tickets to Supermarket Sweep had the opportunity to speak with CoDiet researchers and learn a bit more about the project and ask any questions they have on their mind. They could take home a copy of the CoDiet activity sheet or a recipe card created in collaboration with chef Jethro Carr and researchers from the project.
