Consortium for Biomedical Research as Network (acronym in Spanish: CIBER)

Research focus

CIBER mission is to promote the understanding of mechanisms contributing to the development of obesity in order to reduce its occurrence and prevalence as well as its complications, in addition to nutrition-related diseases.

Through leadership in translational biomedical research, CIBER integrates basic, clinical, epidemiological, and public health research, provides medical care and promotes public awareness about obesity and nutrition, to become a reference research centre that has the competitive potential of being internationalised and to provide R&D&I consulting services to pharmaceutical companies, food companies and the nation’s health authorities.

Focus in CoDiet

Based on FOOD-EPI and STOP Project assessments, together with colleagues from Italy, Estonia, Finland, Belgium UK, Slovenia, and Portugal, we will work on policy scenarios combining the strengths of approaches adopted in the countries observed in several key policy areas for healthy food environments: front-of-pack labelling, marketing restrictions to children, food composition targets for processed foods, and policies in schools to promote healthy food choices.

Nutrient and energy intakes, as well as other diet characteristics will be determined, to reflect the distribution of dietary intakes and disease risk in different population groups of these countries. It will estimate how the policies will impact dietary intakes and in turn NCD incidence, along with disease-specific and overall mortality, life expectancy and economic outcomes.
