The Department of Cellular, Computational and Integrative Biology – DiCIBIO  is an interdisciplinary department within the University of Trento. DiCIBIO aims at creating a suitable environment for merging classical cellular and molecular biology with the new powerful tools of systems and synthetic biology, through an interdisciplinary and integrated approach.

DiCIBIO provides a range of Core-Facilities, which are independent technology-based laboratories with dedicated and qualified personnel, allowing the access to internal researchers and to external customers. The NGS Facility is a Research facility offering cutting edge next-generation DNA sequencing technology operating various platforms: Illumina HiSeq2500, Illumina MiSeq, NovaSeq6000 and Ion Torrent PGM.

Role in CoDiet

UNITN will be involved in WP2 “BIOMARKER PLUS: Microbiota, enhanced dietary assessment, metabolomics and genetics” and WP5 “Evaluation of AI derived CoDiet NCD tool”. In WP2 UNITN will: i) define the NCD biomarkers based on microbiome technology, ii) perform shotgun metagenomic sequencing of stool samples from the validation study and iii) profile and analyse the metagenomic data.

Within WP5 the group will: i) perform shotgun metagenomic sequencing of stool samples from the randomised control trial, ii) profile and analyse the metagenomic data looking for biomarkers for NCD risk and iii) support the analysis of the trial outcomes (Biomarkers for NCD risk based on -omic technologies, microbiome variability and association with diet, microbiome variability and NCD risk factor).
